IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roger
Suhr
November 8, 1953 – September 25, 2025
Roger Steven Suhr, 71, a man of many traits who lived a life rooted in authenticity and passion, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at Bellevue Medical Center after a short illness, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on November 8, 1953, Roger lived a life full of adventure and joy, devoting the last 15 years to the love of his life, Jo Ann Rangel.
Roger grew up in Council Bluffs before his family moved to a farm on Mudhollow Road. As the oldest child, he naturally took on the role of leader. Life on the farm, where he helped raise cattle, bale hay, and work alongside his father, instilled in him both discipline and a love of country living. His childhood was also filled with baseball, Boy Scouts, and racing control-line model airplanes with his parents, a favorite hobby during the 1950s and 60s.
The son of a firefighter and a nurse, Roger admired his parents' dedication to serving others. He carried those values forward in his own life. Academically gifted, Roger earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and later studied psychology and counseling, reflecting both his sharp mind and his compassion for others.
Roger's journey was rich with ventures and passions. At heart a countryman, he raised and cared for horses, his favorite being Hank, long with alpacas, emus, and other animals. He explored many business paths: running pony rides, working as an auctioneer of rare animals, excelling in car sales at Copple Cars in Louisville (where he once sold 27 cars in a single month), and even appearing as a "grumpy old man" in the film The Phantom Firebird.
Motorcycles were a lifelong love. From dirt bikes to Harley-Davidson rides later in life, Roger found freedom on the open road. Some of his happiest times were sharing those rides with Jo Ann at his side.
Together, Roger and Jo Ann also built a thriving business, Shoestring Antiques. Traveling across multiple states, they sought out treasures of bygone eras, specializing in oak furniture from the turn of the century. Roger took pride in restoring each piece to its original beauty, combining craftsmanship with a deep appreciation for history and storytelling.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Genieve Suhr, and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Suhr. He is survived by Jo Ann Rangel; his brother, Mark Suhr; his sister, Robin Suhr; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; Jo Ann's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; bonus grandchildren; and countless friends who loved him dearly.
