Obituary

Duane Maas died Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Faith Health in Norfolk.

———

Born on the family farm June 18, 1943, to Elmer and LaVerne (Bargstadt) Maas, Duane attended country school and graduated from Pierce High School. He married Marilyn Herbolsheimer in 1962, and together they raised three sons. Duane was married to Norene Norberg Kolterman from 1996 until her death in 2023.

“Mac” was a retired truck driver who enjoyed playing cards, smoking and grilling meats and stretching the truth. He loved time with family and especially delighted in being a grandpa and great-grandpa. His humor and endless supply of stories will be greatly missed.

He is survived by sons Brian (Deb), Rick (Sandy) and Chad (Jody); stepson Brent (Jennie) Kolterman; stepdaughter Teresa (Collin) Wales; grandchildren Nathan Maas, Becca (Nick) Maguire, Tyler Maas, Max, Mason, Myles and Maggie Maas, Callie (Branden) Ruge, Luke (Brittany), Sam and Derrick (Juliet) Kolterman and Rayann, Corbin, Tate and Tara Wales; great-grandchildren Holden Maguire, Riley and Emma Kuhl, Joyanna Ruge and Sutton Kolterman; siblings Sharolyn (Billy) Buss, Jim (Marian) Maas, Tom Maas and Linda Blank; sister-in-law Sandra (Bill) Roth; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Norene; brother-in-law Steve Blank; and sister-in-law Candy Maas.
